Make a Series
Create a series of 3 or more works of art.
Begin by envisioning a subject for your art (picture ideas in your mind). Think of 3 ways to create your subject or select from the list below. Envision and create each part of your series. Then take a picture of your series all together or take individual photographs.
List of ideas for making a series:
1. Change Elements
Focus on a different Element of Art: color, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value. For example: if you focused on color for one part of your series, you could focus on line or shape for this part.
2. Change Location
Create your subject in a different place. Ideas: underwater, outer space, by a sunset, in a city, farm, desert, forest, on a boat, swimming, flying, etc.
3. Change Position
Create your subject in a different position or viewed from a different angle (like a bird's eye view or a worm's eye view).
4. Change Media
Draw it, paint it, sculpt it, collage it, use found objects, use items from nature, or any media for this part of your series.
5. Make it Abstract
Create your subject in an abstract way. Try using angles, shapes, or rearranging the parts to create an unexpected version for your series.
6. Make it Realistic
Use any art supplies you have to create a realistic image of a subject.
7. Use Different Colors
Change the colors, use opposite colors, make it monochromatic (all shades of 1 color), or mix up the colors any way you want.
8. Use a Different Technique
Try pointillism (art made with dots), hatching, cross hatching, blending, paint with a palette knife, paint with a Q-tip, paint with a leaf or twig, or any different technique.
9. Zoom In or Zoom Out
Zoom in to create a close-up or detail view of your subject. Zoom out to create your subject as if it were far away.
Artist Connection:
Roy Lichtenstein is a Pop Artist. Pop art is an art movement that began in the 1950s. Artists found inspiration from sources in popular and commercial culture.
The Cow Profile Series (below) shows how Roy Lichtenstein created series of images using the same subject in a progression from realistic to abstract.
